Inspiration This Week
What inspired us over spring break? We got a day of adventure over the hill to Reno where we found a took a chance visiting a thrift store in case we could find photo props. It turned out the the thrift store either had received dresses when a store went out of business, or somehow discontinued dresses? We didn’t know the story. All we knew was that we could choose from three racks of gowns, one rack with $3 dresses. That must be what wealth feels like- to say, whatever inspires us is coming home with us today. And really, it was 3 dresses that caught our attention.
One of the dresses spoke a certain story to me. And we so happened to be visiting Crystal Hermitage Gardens on a Photo Walk with Nevada City Scenics. The opportunity was perfectly perfect for one of the dresses that we found. Can you guess our inspiration?
If you guessed Cinderella, you’re right! The blooming gardens were absolutely perfect for a Cinderella themed photoshoot.
I will have more to share as we edit them. Every part of the garden gave us opportunities to build the story.
I brought my prism to play with a few images, too. Somehow taking an element of control away, like the prism effect, is freeing.
I did play with images once we got home, too. For these, I brought them into Photoshop, then flipped a layer and masked to fill the frame with flowers. The garden is filled with blooms, but being able to take a wall out of the final image added to magic of the moment. I am mindful about these artistic visions (after all, with travel images, I keep reality in place so visitors aren’t disappointed). But with these personal projects, it’s fun to play with the impact and artistic composition of the image.
Finally, I stitched together a “burst mode” of her spinning to make a gif spinning in the dress. Which to me is a special magic.
We’re looking forward to the next adventure already.
We have plans for another dress that we chose at the same thrift store. Hopefully we can think of a perfect location for that idea, too :)
