Engaging on social media as a creative can be daunting, and also fun. We share ideas to make social media is less about sales pitches and more about community.

Social media has changed how creatives, writers, and artists share their work and connect with audiences. It provides a chance to reach people worldwide, allowing for project sharing, inspiration, and collaboration. Platforms like Instagram and TikTok let individuals express themselves and interact with fans instantly. Whether posting a poem, revealing a painting, or asking for feedback on a screenplay, social media is a useful tool for growth, visibility, and creativity in today's digital world.

Episode 2 Show Notes

Hi, I’m Lenka and I’m Tim. We are creatives, writers, and makers. We’re here to connect with people who appreciate our work and creations. Today, we want to talk about social media and how it helps us connect with people from all over the world. It’s really fun and it’s all about building a community and a family. The concept is about creating a community, a family.

When using social media, it’s not just about posting and leaving it. You should explore, like, and engage with others who share similar interests. You can comment, follow, and connect with them. There are various platforms available, and they often change or rebrand, like Twitter.

It’s crucial to choose a platform that resonates with you and your audience. If you post serene and quiet content on a hyper, high-energy platform, it may not connect with people as well as it would on a platform that focuses on similar topics. Define your audience to understand where your content will work best. TikTok may not be the right fit, but LinkedIn, Facebook, or Instagram could be.

Tim: I limit my exposure to three social media platforms. This way, I don’t have to worry about keeping up with too many platforms. It’s easy to spread yourself thin and spend all day on social media instead of being creative. It’s important to regulate your time and focus on your creative work.

Lenka: I have been using social media for a long time, so I stick to one platform where I feel comfortable. Once I get the hang of it, I add another platform if I feel like it. It depends on my mood and what I want at the time. Right now, my dog is demanding attention, so I need to be adaptable.

Tim: I have limited my social media exposure to three platforms. This prevents me from feeling overwhelmed and allows me to focus on my creative process. Spending all day on social media can be counterproductive. It’s important to regulate your time and not put all your energy into marketing. Instead, focus on creating more of what you’re passionate about, whether it’s making something or writing stories.

Lenka: I’ve been using social media for a long time, so I stick to one platform until I feel comfortable. Then, I add another one based on my mood and interests. Social media is not just a soapbox for self-promotion, but a way to connect with people who resonate with your work. It may take time, but finding your audience is rewarding.

Tim: Each platform has subgroups, and I’m in the science fiction section since I write science fiction novels and short stories. My friend Lenka, who does fairy crafts, is in a different section. It’s important to explore different apps and find the ones that resonate with you. This makes it easier to learn the technology and rules, and find your audience.

Lenka: In my case, Pinterest is where I connect with people interested in fairies. I post a lot on there, but not all the content is mine. I also use Tailwind for scheduling posts. Apologies for my dog’s excitement, he’s signaling that it’s Kong time in the evening, part of our routine. I post a lot and I use Tailwind. I can put a link in the show notes. Oh my gosh, he’s barking now. We’ll discuss more later. You can find me at Lenkaland on all platforms. On TikTok, you can find me at lenkalandfam. Go get your Kong.

Tim: To learn more about me, Tim, visit thumar1.com, my author’s website. It’s up to date with everything I’ve done. I need to update it soon. You can also read my short stories on my booksie com site. They’re free. Please drop a comment and share your favorite social media channel. I’d love to hear from you.

Lenka: Chewie says that’s all. He’s a Lhasa Apso. We’re all here for Chewie, Thor, and Loki. They’re the bosses. Thank you for joining us. There’s more to say. I get millions of Pinterest views a month and I’ll share how I do that. I can also give an overview of each platform’s strengths. Let’s continue the conversation and find some creative inspiration.

Tim: It’s really hot here. We just had an 11-day heatwave. Have a wonderful day and go make something. Have fun and expect miracles.

Lenka: We believe in you. Talk to you soon. Bye!
