To the River
Explore. Discover. Remember. This weekend we took advantage of the January sunshine (summer in winter? Would be nice except we need rain!). Anyway, we decided to investigate up the path by the Highway 49 bridge. Even though I grew up in this area, I still have areas that are brand new to me. Partly because locals know that parking by the bridge is insane come summertime. We avoid this area in favor of more secluded locations.
I also (usually) avoid any outing that means walking trails. Unfortunately, great sections of the river are inaccessible to me. And I often didn't know it until we are halfway to the swimming hole and the trail becomes steep or uneven or hugs a cliffside that makes my heart hammer against my ribs. Not so fun. Whenever I hear ideas about river-trails, I make excuses or suggest a different, easier place to swim.
This weekend we decided to 'Just Try'. We would just walk up the trail. If it became sketchy or we walked too far, we'd turn around. A good decision. We found a magical rocky mermaid-pool.
The water is icy cold. No swimming yet! Still, we all enjoyed the delicious sunshine.
The mermaid managed a little splashing (not much, her 'fins' got cold fast :))
Of course Ian found an epic stick :)
The river softens rocks. Smooths and shapes them with a constant caress.
River love.
I am always sure to have a day to rest after an adventure like this. I paid for my exploring for sure. All week though we talk about what we saw and found. Adventures can be worth the effort. :)
Wishing you a rewarding week :)
