Spooky Forest

So I had an inspiration to create scenes in a forgotten stretch of forest, where energy is old and living and very, very spooky.

And I even wrote a story for them! My creativity seems to be finding me even as I take small steps towards the joy I once felt in large projects and writing long books. It’s difficult. My left hand is numb and swollen from lymphedema. I’m experimenting with dictation. And using AI to edit and add text that I then edit again (less typing though). Speaking of, my hands need a break. Hope you enjoy the story!

Forgotten

Moonlight casts ethereal blue shadows and the trees grow close together, a place of neglect and abandonment. Broken tree limbs and scattered leaves litter the ground in this forsaken corner of the woods, scenting damp earth with decaying foliage. Silence envelops the surroundings, broken only by the occasional rustle of leaves or the distant hoot of an owl.

An eerie beauty persists with twisted trunks and tangled undergrowth. Moonlight filters through the dense canopy, an ethereal glow that bathes everything in blue. You pause, both captivated and unsettled

And then, as if emerging from the mist, she appears. Her ghostly gaze pierces through the darkness, she is so still. The forest quiets. In a voice barely audible, she beckons, "Stay awhile." You understand the true meaning behind her words, causing you to instinctively step back, tripping over a fallen branch. Panic sets in, and you scramble to your feet, desperately fleeing from her grasp. With one hesitant glance backward, you witness her standing motionless among the trees, her wide, shining eyes fixed upon you. Maybe... No. You force yourself to turn away, each step weakening her hold on your heart.

As you sprint through the dense undergrowth, the branches claw at your skin. The moonlight flickers, casting eerie shadows that seem to chase after you. Leaving the forgotten stretch of forest behind, gratitude washes over you. And, yet, you are sad to leave. Sad to leave her. Her voice will never leave your mind, that invitation to, "Please stay." People get lost in the forest, in the night. And now you know why. She would love you and she would keep you. Forever.

Cheers to the spooky creatures everywhere.
