To help individuals with CMT, you can learn and remember the name of their condition. By familiarizing yourself with CMT, you show understanding and empathy. This simple act can make a significant difference in how individuals with CMT feel seen and acknowledged. Educating yourself about CMT and its symptoms can also raise awareness, promote inclusion, and support research for better treatments and potential cures.
These are first drafts. I would love less words. But also, it’s information. And I figure that the more images floating around the internet, the better.
How was CMT named after teeth when it has nothing to do with teeth?
Charcot Marie Tooth disease, also known as CMT, is a neurological disorder characterized by the progressive degeneration of the peripheral nerves, leading to muscle weakness and atrophy. This condition was named after the three physicians who independently described the disease in the late 19th century. Jean-Martin Charcot, Pierre Marie, and Howard Henry Tooth each made significant contributions to understanding and identifying the distinct features of CMT.
Charcot, a renowned French neurologist, first recognized the condition in 1886, while Marie, also a French physician, further elaborated on its clinical manifestations and inheritance patterns. Tooth, a British neurologist, added to the knowledge of CMT by detailing the characteristic changes observed in nerve tissues. Their combined efforts and dedication paved the way for further research and advancements in the understanding and treatment of Charcot Marie Tooth disease.
Now you know why a serious disease has Tooth when it has nothing to do with teeth. Now the beginning, Charcot, is pronounced Shark-o which means we get a Shark for a mascot :) which is way cooler than teeth, in my opinion 😂
Maybe tomorrow I’ll make Shark theme infographics. What would you like to see in an easy format for sharing socials. The more, the merrier.
