Ghost Photoshoot Challenge

I love teens. And I’m serious about that. Teens are awesome. And this trend is all the rage among tiktokers (haha). I mean, this trend is such a fun way to get out and make retro photos with a modern twist. The Ghost Photoshoot Challenge is an opportunity to throw a white sheet over your head, add a pair of sunglasses, and show your ghost having a grand time doing whatever may be outside your home. When Anika came to me with the idea, I knew we could use a super-secret location for some epic ghost photos. These train tracks are decommissioned (safety alert, never ever photograph on working train tracks). And they go past some old scenes like a covered bridge and decorative (not functional) outhouses. And an ore cart by a mine facade. We had a fantastic time imagining a ghosty vacation. Where she waited for the train, caught an ore cart, then took some super-touristy snapshots by the outhouses. The adventure was a lovely break for irreverent creativity. Perhaps our images can inspire your own ghost photos!

We did not cut holes in the sheets. I think part of the fun is how we would organize the shot, then she would put the sheet over her head, and the glasses, for the photo. Apologies if this ruins the Ghost Illusion for you! :) Of course we had to add a little movement. Which occasionally meant that I needed to blend the photos back onto the image because they often fell off.

Next, we processed the photos to look like old 1980s film images. This meant desaturating colors and bumping the grain for that old-time photo look. Which was fun to see photos transformed to look as though they were taken in another era.

We wish you a happy, spooky season!

Happy Halloween!!
