Earth Nation Rocks

Often, Anika and I challenge ourselves to create stories with new imagery. We were invited to the second local Portrait Slam which partnered with the Discovery Thrift Shop in Auburn, California. We discovered this gem of a coat. It immediately reminded us of Avatar: The Last Airbender, specifically Earth Nation.

After documenting a few portraits, we decided to try capturing movement. Anika tossed a few pebbles (gently) in the air while I used burst mode on the camera. Is that how we made the fun movement? Nope. Rocks don’t behave neatly, and they don’t rise and fall without Earth Nation powers :)

Instead, I took a compelling composition photograph and brought it into Photoshop to “move” the rocks and show greenery behind them. It gave me quite a few challenges. But each effort gives both Anika and I skills moving into the next project. I love the result of our efforts! More Earth Nation photos will be coming soon, joining our Fire Nation and (upcoming) Water Nation collections :)
